HOW IT STARTED

Chris Hayter began with one lorry

CHT has been a family owned company since 1964, and we have gone from delivering coal bunkers to heat pumps, food and other products. Our focus on delivering high levels of service means some of our customers have been with us for over 50 years.

OUR TIMELINE

Key events in our history

1964

First Vehicle

Chris began transporting concrete coal bunkers around the country, directly to customer homes, loading and unloading by hand. 

1972

First food customer

CHT won its first contract with a food producer to deliver spices around the country and is still serving the same customer to this day - with many service changes supported by CHT along the way.

1974

CHRIS HAYTER TRANSPORT LTD is incorporated

Chris and Jenny Hayter incorporated the company in 1974 in Thame and it has remained a family business since then.  Today 3 generations of the family are at work in CHT.

1975

First Witney warehouse

In 1975, CHT began renting the first of many warehouse in Witney which is still in service today and is still the location of the Witney Workshops where the Southern fleet is serviced.

1987

Witney expansion

CHT expanded to take on a warehouse on the Windrush Industrial Park. This was later transferred to new warehouses on Curbridge Business Park. CHT expanded onto Windrush again in 2021.

1989

The North

CHT's first Northern base opened in Warrington in 1989.  Since 2004 CHT has been operating from Skelmersdale.

2004

Curbridge Business Park

Conway House was opened in 2004 soon followed by Jervis House and then followed in 2018 by Trinity House.

2022

Windward House opens

CHT's latest warehouse on Curbridge Business Park was opened in 2022 to supply more space for our growing retail customers.

2024

Leeward House and Tungsten open

CHT adds another warehouse on Curbridge Business Park and Unit 12 on Tungsten Park
